Folio, BCP with engraved title page by D. Loggan; both works ruled in red throughout, with large margins, bound in ornately blind-tooled black morocco with an overall pattern of intertwining trellises with central tools, a composition reminiscent of incunabula bindings, spine title in gilt, spine completely tooled in blind, bound by Riviere, aeg., expertly rebacked, the original spine almost seamlessly integrated; ex libris Herbert Salisbury Squance (1867-1922), with bookplate inside front board; a few superficial scuffs; 13 3/8 x 9 1/4 in.

This particular edition of the Book of Common Prayer and Psalms was composed and edited at the time of the Restoration of Charles II to the British throne. In addition to a section of prayers to be said while at sea, it also contains much relevant to the martyrdom of Charles I. Prayers to be used on the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, on the anniversary of the King's execution, and special prayers for May 29th, Charles II's birthday and the date of his return to Great Britain all appear after the last psalm.
